This is a long-established noodle shop in Suzhou, reportedly packed during mealtimes. The Fengzhen white broth noodles are a must-order; they seem to be only available seasonally, and they're absolutely delicious! The meat is stewed until tender and melts in your mouth, while the noodles have a satisfying chewiness! The Suzhou-style braised fish is sweet! It can get a bit cloying after a while. The stir-fried eel is quite good, with a sweet and sour flavor. The golden pork ribs are also tasty, but a bit oily. The scallion oil noodles we ordered last were just average, very bland.

This is a famous restaurant that's so delicious it makes me want to travel all the way to China just to eat it. The large pork noodles in plain broth (also known as char siu noodles) are exquisite, and even better when topped with bok choy or stewed shiitake mushrooms. The amount of noodles is 1.5 times the amount in Japan, but the soup is very refreshing yet rich, so you'll find yourself finishing it in no time. It used to be a self-service restaurant, but it has since been renovated. First, when you enter the restaurant, you order at the counter on the right, and once you're seated with your receipt, they will bring you your order. I always go there for breakfast. It gets busy, so go early in the morning. It gets very busy at lunchtime. In the afternoon, they close because they sell out, so it's best to go early.

🇨🇳 Tong De Xing (Jiayu Fang) 😋 Bib Gourmand 🍴 Noodles 🎗️ Tong De Xing is an old noodle shop with its original branch operating since the time of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty, almost 200 years ago. The branch we visited today is located on Jiayu Fang Street in Suzhou. The interior is decorated with inspiration from Suzhou-style gardens, creating an atmosphere of ancient China. The front of the shop has a counter for ordering and paying, after which you choose a table, and staff will bring the food to you. The atmosphere in the shop is friendly; customers tend to enjoy their meal and leave quickly, making the shop not too noisy. 🎗️ The highlight is the Suzhou-style vermicelli noodles, with their unique texture, served with a variety of main proteins and side dishes. Next are two more soup options: white and red, each with a distinct flavor profile. We recommend the Three Shrimp Noodle Set, featuring noodles served with sweet and savory shrimp, topped with shrimp roe for added umami. For those who order the dry version, the restaurant will also provide a side of broth. The side dishes in the set include Zhou Zhuang Xue Cai Mao Dou (pickled vegetables and edamame), Chong You Wo Shun (thinly sliced, crispy mustard greens), and Mei Hua Shou Dou Gao (plum blossom-shaped bean cake), a traditional Suzhou dessert. Another must-try dish is Hong Tang Shrimp Belly Braised Pork Noodles, Fengzhen-style pork belly noodles braised in soy sauce and sugar until tender and flavorful. It's best enjoyed with Classic Shrimp Belly, or stir-fried shrimp with pork kidney served in a Suzhou-style red broth. Customers can add ginger strips and leafy greens for extra flavor. This dish is only available from May to October. Finally, there are many other snacks, especially handmade Xiao Long Bao, another unique Suzhou dish that differs from the Shanghai style in its thickness and dough, with a richly flavored pork filling. Went with some friends to this noodle restaurant for a little break from Shanghai. No English menus but there was a helpful waitress that showed us how to use their WeChat ordering system. So between a couple of phones and translation software, it worked out just fine. The restaurant was busy at 8AM but she got us a seat right away. The soup noodles were very tasty. I especially liked the onion noodle bowl. Noodles are firmer than the Shanghai version. The place has a nice, traditional, feel too it and we had a great time.

Very good noodles. Especially the scallion noodles and also the crab meat. Tea is a must order... The bean cakes are also good.
